Notice for the person being interviewed

Someone who loves you has asked for your story to become a book. We will ask you questions about your life, in writing, one chapter at a time. You answer in your own time, we write.

The organisation responsible for your data is BertoProduction, NIF Y-4514/312-R, Cabo Blanco, 38627 Tenerife (Spain), info@biografo.net.

The one asking the questions is not a person: it is an artificial intelligence program. We say so clearly at the start of every chapter, as European law requires.

You are the one who reads the whole book and approves it before it is printed.

Your answers are kept — otherwise we could not write down what you tell us. They serve that purpose and nothing else.

They are deleted two years after the book is delivered, unless you want them kept longer.

A life contains illness, faith, political views, love, grief, origins. The law calls these "special categories of data" and requires explicit permission before they are collected.

So before we begin, we ask you to say clearly that you agree. You can always say no and tell only what you wish to tell.

You can stop whenever you like, even mid-sentence. Just say "wait".

If you say something and then think better of it, say "don’t put this in the book": that passage is removed and deleted within twenty-four hours.

At the end you read the text — or we read it to you — and the book only goes to print if you agree.

This holds even if your son or daughter is the one who paid. Whoever paid cannot decide in your place, cannot read your answers without your permission, and cannot authorise printing against your wishes.

In telling your story you will speak of relatives, friends, people who are gone. That is unavoidable in a biography, and the law permits it because this is a literary work.

We do ask you to tell us if any of those people would rather not appear: we will remove them or change their name.

To know what data we hold about you. To correct a mistake. To receive a copy of everything. To erase everything.

If we erase everything, the book is not printed and is not reprinted. Copies already delivered we obviously cannot take back.

At the start we ask you to tell us what you want to happen afterwards: who may read your answers, who may reprint the book, or whether you would rather everything were erased.

It is an uncomfortable question, we know. But it is the only one that lets you decide, rather than leaving it to others.
